Storie dalla Karamoja

Riportiamo un estratto da un email ricevuta dal direttore dell'ospedale di Matany come testimonianza di cosa significa vivere oggi in Karamoja

Here in the Hospital things are fine. The rains of the recent weeks have caused quite some problems on the roads. We had some days without rain but last Thursday it started again.
The other Saturday we received a call from Lopeei that the Ambulance from Kotido was unable to pass the river. We were called to come from the other side of the river with our Ambulance and try to carry the sick and bleeding mother on a stretcher across the river.
She had a Caesarean section in Kotido Health Centre IV as she had a ruptured uterus, due to prolonged labour. Luckily enough the baby was still alive. The bleeding however continued and she was referred to Matany for further management as there was no blood for transfusion available and the young doctors defeated. Good enough we have currently got a visiting senior obstetrician for some weeks here and with the help of Dr. Daniel, they managed to stop the bleeding, removed the uterus and gave two units of blood.
The woman is much better now and the baby has also improved after the difficult days following the emergency Caesarean Section.
